CLAS Mourns the passing of Professor Mitchell Seligson

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) is deeply saddened to inform you that Dr. Mitchell Seligson passed away yesterday (June 1, 2024). We wish to convey our condolences to all of his colleagues, friends, and family; especially to his wife Dr. Susan Berk-Seligson and his daughter, Amber Levanon Seligson. Dr. Seligson earned his doctorate in Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh (1974) as well as a Certificate in Latin American Studies from CLAS. He returned to the University in 1986 to serve as Director of CLAS and Professor of Political Science. After a distinguished tenure as CLAS Director, he stepped down in 1992 and, in 2004, moved to Vanderbilt University where he continued his illustrious academic career.

Much more can be written about Dr. Seligson and, in the near future, we will send additional information about him as well as about plans to honor and remember him.
