T/Th 11-12:15

This interdisciplinary sociolinguistic course explores the current context of Quechua language and culture, beginning in the Andes and expanding globally. While Quechua is strongly rooted in local Andean traditions and practices, the language and its speakers live, interact, and engage with the modern world. Therefore, we will learn about Quechua traditions in the Andes as well as how those both impact and are impacted by a broader global community. Students can expect to focus on topics such as language revitalization, Quechua diaspora communities, indigenous health, music fusion, and Quechua in the digital realm.
