 The 25th Latin American Social
and Public Policy (LASPP) Conference

University of Pittsburgh

CALL FOR PAPERS

April 7-9, 2022

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), University Center for International Studies (UCIS) at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes students and faculty to the 25th Latin American Public and Social Policy Conference (LASPP), April 7, 8 and 9, 2022. The Carmelo Mesa-Lago Distinguished Keynote Speaker for the 25th conference will be Dr. Nisia Trindade Limathe first woman to chair one of the world’s most important public health research institutions, FIOCRUZ (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz), in its 116-year history.

The year 2020 left many questions and few answers about the priorities, challenges, and opportunities that Latin America and the Caribbean face beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. This year we aim to emphasize public and social policies crucial to move towards the 2030 Agenda, considering setbacks and the deepening of poverty, gender equality, employment, climate crises, and environmental change, amplified by the pandemic and related historical issues. Pittsburgh will be the setting for the LASPP community of scholars to discuss ways to contribute to a sustainable and more inclusive future.

The Conference’s 25th edition will include the Dean of the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Maureen Lichtveld, and special events involving former University fellows and keynote speakers. CLAS will present its new Amazon Studies Program, an initiative created to promote research and expertise on Amazonia, serving as a hemispheric resource to pursue in-depth studies and understanding on relevant topics.

Through this conference, participants will have access to a vast professional network, as well as the opportunity to present their papers to a diverse audience committed to working in the region.
Papers may be presented in English, Spanish or Portuguese according to the following deadlines:

Abstracts: January 16, 2022
