Latin American Social & Public Policy Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Latin American Social and Public Policy is a multidisciplinary program of study designed to train future leaders, public officials, and analysts capable of designing social and public programs that meet the needs of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Latin American Social and Public Policy per tier:

Masters-level Certificate Tier

Doctoral/Advanced level Certificate Tier

Language Proficiency:  Two (2) years/ four (4) semesters of college-level instruction or equivalent proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or Quechua (Haitian Creole can be considered for this as well, please talk with the CLAS advisor)

Language Proficiency:  Three (3) years/ six (6) semesters of college-level instruction or equivalent proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or Quechua (Haitian Creole can be considered for this as well, please talk with the CLAS advisor)

Area Studies Coursework: At least fifteen (15) credits of relevant coursework is required. Six (6) of these credits must be outside of the student’s major school or department.

Area Studies Coursework: At least eighteen (18) credits of relevant coursework is required. Nine (9) of these credits must be outside of the student’s major school or department..

Research Paper: An interdisciplinary research paper of 15-25 pages that reflects the use of materials in a language used in the historical or contemporary Latin American, Caribbean and/or Diaspora (including Latinx). The paper could be prepared for a course that is counted toward the coursework requirement, but students are encouraged to conceptualize it with the certificate requirements in mind and to consult with the Center's Advisor while writing it. The paper will be evaluated by CLAS affiliated faculty member.
