The Latin America and the Caribbean Competency Virtual Series is an opportunity for students to learn more about different topics related to this area and connect with the guest speakers outside of the classroom environment. The students will also have the chance of discussing and asking questions regarding the presentation topic.

Flora Fauna and Food:
The Impact of the Columbian Exchange

Cristopher Columbus attempted to find an easier route to India, yet he did not accomplish this goal. What he did do, is set off a chain of events that impacted the cultural identity of various peoples and the relations between them. Join Katie Lloyd as she discusses how food from the Americas affected Afro-Eurasia, and Luke Morales as he discusses the impact of Afro-Eurasian flora and fauna on the Americas.

The aim of the internship is to involve CLAS certificate student(s) in organizations that work in and with the Latinx community in Southwestern Pennsylvania and leverage the skills and language acquired during their course of studies at the University of Pittsburgh.

SPRING 2021 WEBINAR TEACHES PITTSBURGH RESIDENTS TO “RECYCLE RIGHT”
The City of Pittsburgh’s blue recycling bin distribution program to become BAG FREE BY ’23 features a free webinar presented by the PA Resources Council instructing residents on how to RECYCLE RIGHT.  The 30-minute webinar, taking place through May 2021, spotlights bin use and options for recycling hard-to-recycle items.  

 

RECICLA BIEN (RECYCLE RIGHT)
La ciudad de Pittsburgh apunta a funcionar sin bolsas de reciclaje (BAG FREE) para el 2023, mediante la distribución de más de 100,000 contenedores azules para todas las viviendas unifamiliares, dúplex y edificios de apartamentos con cinco o menos unidades. El programa ofrece un seminario web gratuito del Consejo de Recursos de PA, con instrucciones de como RECICLAR BIEN. El seminario se presentará hasta mayo de 2021, tiene una duración de 30 minutos y presenta el uso adecuado de los contenedores y las opciones para el depósito de artículos difíciles de reciclar.
