On September 23, we joyfully celebrated our 41st Latin American and Caribbean Festival, in the midst of Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month. Though rain made it necessary to rely on a contingency plan and move vendors and activities indoors in a flash, it did not seem to dampen spirits, and thousands of people shared in the annual celebration of the Americas. As always, we are already thinking about ways to improve the Festival and we plan to hold the 42nd edition in the Spring of 2025.
For this month of October, we will host Dr. Jose Cheibub for our Speaker Series on October 5, and Brodwyn Fischer on October 26, the first Charlemos of the Academic year on October 10, and an interesting Pop-Up course on Monuments in Urban Space, with Leila Bianchi. The CULTNA Series will feature Juliana Pereira and Lissa Passos on Oct 18.The very next day, on October 19, we will host the Slavery and Memorialization in Brazil Roundtable. This is part of the Slavery and Memorialization in the Atlantic World series, a collaboration with the Center for African Studies and the Department of History.
We are excited about the coming month and hope you will join us as well!
