In addition to his keen interest in foreign language pedagogy, Brett Wells' research foci include language politics and planning in the French-speaking world.  He is particularly interested in how language politics and language ideologies inform the teaching and learning of French in the United States.  His current project focuses on the teaching of French as a global language.  He is in the process of preparing a new version of French 0104 that approaches French in the twenty-first century as a planetary language and the "property" of all who use it whether as a dominant or secondary tongue.
