About Community Engagement

Our Outreach Mission

The Global Studies Center is committed to working with our community partners to provide resources, sponsor activities, and develop innovative programming that enriches intellectual and cultural life both on and off campus.

What We Provide

Professional Development

The GSC sponsors a variety of professional development opportunities for educators who wish to improve their understanding of global issues and infuse their teaching practice with global studies pedagogies. These events are free and can be hosted at Pitt or a local venue. Examples of recent activities include teacher workshops for Act 48 credit, sponsored lectures on global issues, and funding support for K-12 teachers. Funding permitting, GSC also offers experiences overseas for K-12 teachers and area faculty during the summer.

K-12 Student Opportunities

Along with other UCIS area studies centers, the GSC hosts a variety of student competitions to enrich K-12 students’ global education opportunities. Such competitions include: the High School Japanese Speech Contest, Euro Challenge, International Marketing Competition, Europe Day Contest, Moot ICC, African Union, Pitt Model UN and the PA Governor's School for Global and International Studies.

Community Partners

The Global Studies Center is proud to partner with globally-oriented organizations in Pittsburgh to offer our community innovative, interdisciplinary programs. Some of our current partners include City of Asylum, the Carnegie Museums, and Pittsburgh Arts and Lectures. If you are interested in a partnership with us, please contact us at global@pitt.edu
