Washington D.C. Trip

The Global Studies Center hosts a networking trip to Washington D.C each spring. Students who participate in the trip will meet with professionals working in various governmental offices, not-for-profit organizations, and consulting firms in the nation’s capital. Past site visits have included the State Department, the National Democratic Institute, the Government Accountability Office; and the Global Knowledge Initiative, as well as a networking party with UCIS alumni working in the area. The Pitt delegation is divided into three groups according to student interest: Intelligence, Diplomacy, and Security; Global Health; and Human Security.

The UCIS trip was extremely beneficial because we were able to talk to several organizations and alumni who were all so helpful. Not only did they give insight into career opportunities in Washington and within the U.S. government, but they also provided guidance on networking and career exploration that will be helpful no matter what career path I chose.”  -Megan Heim, 2024, Spanish Major & Global Studies Certificate

My favorite memory from this past trip was being able to talk with a number of Pitt alumni about their experiences living and working in Washington DC and the helpful advice they were able to pass along.” Emma Knutty, 2024, Anthropology Major, Hispanic Language and Culture minor, & Global Studies Certificate
