On October 15 we hosted our 40th Annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival, a joyful event bringing together our Latinx, Caribbean, Hispanic and Latin American communities on the Oakland campus. We were joined by Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, who spent part of his afternoon eating delicious food, meeting participants and dancing with performers. We want to thank everyone for making this Festival special.

CMU International Film Festival
Free screening for Haitian Director Gessica Généus’s film FREDA at McConomy Auditorium (Carnegie Mellon University) at 6:00PM.

This film follows Freda, a girl who lives with her family in a poor neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. They make ends meet thanks to their small street shop. Faced with precarious living conditions and the rise of violence in Haiti, each of them wonders whether to stay or leave. Freda wants to believe in the future of her country.

Community Opportunity:
Looking for a Pre-Dental related Internship?

Join VAW Global Health Alliances at the University of Pittsburgh! As an intern, you'll support a team to work closely with local health workers and partners to implement primary health clinics across partner communities.

This is a two-week intensive trip during May 2023 to Peru to gain experience in a dental clinic taking vitals, shadowing local dentists, assisting with basic dental procedures, familiarizing yourself with dental instruments and learning proper sterilization and tray preparation techniques.

Even if you are not pre-dental, this is a great chance to get an idea of what it is like to work in a clinic and gain an understanding of healthcare in communities abroad.
