MEET EU 360

Pitt students participating in study abroad are eligible to become Content Creators for the ESC’s MEET EU 360 program and receive $500 to cover the costs of airfare or other eligible expenses!

What is MEET EU 360? This program brings VR headsets into K-12 classrooms to allow students and teachers to “visit” and learn about Europe without leaving the classroom.

Why become a content creator?
In addition to the $500 travel award to help off-set the costs of your airfare to get you to your study abroad program, Content Creators will gain new skills in virtual reality as they receive training on 360 video-making and engage directly with the technology.

This is a unique opportunity to put your own spin on your study abroad experience. Explore a theme or topic relevant to your European host country(ies) and create a presentation to share your exploration with others. 360 presentations from our Content Creators may be used for engagement purposes with students (K-12, community college, and MSI) and community members. Content may also be featured in Pitt’s Global Hub and other contexts.

As a bonus, Content Creators keep the 360 photos and videos they captured—allowing you to revisit your study abroad destination in Virtual Reality! In addition to making an impact with young students through the ESC’s outreach programs, it can also enhance your own ePortfolio or resume.

What would I have to do?
Students selected as MEET EU 360 Content Creators must complete a self-paced course on 360 video-making developed by Pitt’s Center for Teaching and Learning prior to departure. Through a generous grant from the EU Delegation to the US, the ESC will loan a 360 camera to selected students to use during their study abroad program.

The ESC recognizes that proposed plans for topical or thematic explorations may change once Content Creators are in the host country(ies). Below is a sample timeline:

  • MAY: study abroad experience | travel, capture 360 photos and videos
  • JUNE: return | look at footage, begin selecting and editing material
  • JULY: finalize your project
  • AUGUST: submit to the ESC

Upon completion, 360 presentations will be catalogued and made available to teachers in our region, along with a complete classroom set of fully-sanitizable 360 viewers and an instructor’s tablet, which can be borrowed for up to two weeks. These will be available to ship to teachers in West Virginia, Ohio, western New York, and western and central Pennsylvania.

How do I apply?
Interested students should propose topical or thematic explorations of their study abroad destination and provide a timeline for completion of their project in order to be selected as content creators.  Proposals should be submitted by April 15, 2022 to allow time for training.
