Why become a Content Creator?

It’s a great professional development opportunity! Content Creators gain new skills in digital narration. This means that you will learn how to create a story and how to use technology to share your story with others. Your “end product” will be a great addition to your own ePortfolio or resume.

You get to tell your story! This is a unique opportunity to put your own spin on your study abroad experience. You explore a theme or topic relevant to your host country(ies) and create content to share your exploration with others. Your “end product” will be used for engagement purposes with Pitt students, K-16 students, and community members. Content may also be featured in Pitt’s Global Hub and other contexts.

Money is involved! You will receive a $400 travel award to help off-set the costs of your airfare to get you to your study abroad program.

What do you have to do?

Participation in the Global Lenses Project entails the following:

  • You must participate in a 90-minute training/best practices workshop on March 24 (time TBD).
  • You must meet with an advisor in your respective UCIS Center (see list below) to refine the theme and direction of your project.
  • You must create a short video (max 5 minutes) or 360 presentation focused on your proposed theme by October 2025.
  • You must participate in a “screening” event featuring the projects of all the Content Creators. The event will take place in the Global Hub in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.

How do you apply?

To be selected as a Content Creator, you need to propose a thematic exploration of your study abroad experience and provide a timeline for completion of your project.

Looking for ideas and examples?

Part of the opportunity and challenge of participating in the Global Lenses Project is coming up with your theme or perspective for your content. Below are some sample ideas.

  • Perhaps you are studying in France and interested in the phenomenon of populism. You could document examples of the strategies and successes of Marine Le Pen's National Rally party. What evidence do you see of her popularity and successes on the streets of Paris?
  • Maybe you are studying in East Africa and are interested in colonial legacy. You could explore the impact of British and German colonial occupation in Kenya and Tanzania on the education, business, and government sectors by documenting the English and German influences you see in the country.
  • Consider concepts that fall within the broad range of global health. This may include such concepts as equity and inequity of access, government vs non governmental services,  western medicine applications or practices of traditional medicine, and/ or the impact of climate change on populations.
  • Think about issues involving the idea of contested cities.  Example of issues (but not limited to) include access to transportation, healthcare, public spaces.  Students may want to consider the built environment, placement and patronage works of art (including traditional and graffiti) or the role of AI. It may be one of these concepts, others and the concepts can intersect with one another.
